I have recently had the pleasure of working on a few bikes that required a real keen eye for detail and have subsequently bought their owners a great deal of joy! Restoring a bike is definitely something that I enjoy doing, taking a bike in well used condition and refurbishing it into ‘as new’ condition never gets old. The pinnacle of this process has been an Orange Elite, limited edition from 1992/3.

This bike was a truly limited edition run of 25 to commemorate a world champs win. Every bike was slightly different in spec and graphics so getting replacement decals from any supplier (including orange themselves) was impossible. To achieve the desired effect I took photos and used some editing software to re-align the images, fill in any gaps and recreate the original graphics ready to cut using my vinyl cutter. The final outcome is a set of decals that are practically identical to the original. Newly built wheels using some second hand XT hubs with some new Halo rims and stainless spokes compliment the bike and keep its as close as practical to the original spec. All components were removed, disassembled, deep cleaned, lubricated and reassembled in preparation for the rebuild. New old stock cables and pads rounded out the restoration process. I’m happy to report the owner of the bike says it’s riding as well as it did when he first purchased the bike around 30 years ago.

Although not as intensive and thorough of a restoration compared to the orange. This YT tues DH bike came in for paint restoration and a service. After being bought second hand it needed a little TLC to have it running as it should. After removing the original paint protection film the frame had a comprehensive once over, repainting any areas of damage, followed by a deep clean and detail to get the paint back to its factory finish. Once ready and fully cured a new paint protection film kit from Invisiframe has been fitted, ensuring the frame stays in tip top condition for many ,ore years. A factory level shock service, fresh cables, brake bleeds, hub, headset and bottom bracket service compete the job and now the YT is running better than ever.

In a similar vein to the YT was this Shand bahookie. After a few years of use as a bike packing rig it has seen its fair share of miles, all while loaded with kit and bags. Bike touring is harsh on paint work and this Shand was showing signs of wear in lots of places. A full paint restoration followed by a bespoke paint protection film kit and it’s looking like it did when it set off on its initial adventure!

If you have a bike that requires a high level of attention to detail in its service or restoration, it would be my absolute pleasure to bring your bike back to life. Get in touch to inquire about booking and costs; I look forward to hearing from you.
