One of my main passions within bicycle service is the art of wheelbuilding. It is a process I have enjoyed for many years, constantly learning and improving my techniques to achieve the best possible results for my customer. There are many factors that go into the final outcome and through trial and testing I can confidently recommend a balance of the characteristics that best suit a certain rim or spoke combination to create a durable and high performance wheel set.

I always start with a conversation, asking what the desired outcome is, are you focused on low weight, durability, cost, serviceability or blend of multiple factors. I can then tailor the choice of hub, rim, spoke and nipple to compliment the requirements, using parts I know will last and offer excellent value.

Wheel building is often seen as one of the ‘dark arts’ of cycle service work and its true that only a few mechanics can truly call themselves an expert, it takes years of experience together with a keen eye for details to perfect the skill. At its heart a wheel build is a relatively simple execution of crossing multiple spokes and connecting them to a rim, but the attention to detail and refinement that comes from years of practice can’t be matched when it com3s to the final product.

For anyone who chooses a complete wheel where I supply the hub, rims and spokes I also offer free lifetime hub servicing labour, you will only ever pay for replacement parts like bearings.
